UDTA-Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia Arnis Cup 2009 Huge Success By: James U. Sy Jr.

Participating teams during the opening of the UDTA-Mayor Evelio "Bing" Leonardia Arnis Cup 2009 held last October 4, 2009 at the Atrium Area, Gaisano Bacolod Supermall, Araneta St., Brgy. Singcang, Bacolod City.

The Universal Defensive Tactics Academy (UDTA) of Founder/Chairman Abraham G. Ganzon Jr. in cooperation with the Arnis Philippines Bacolod/Negros Chapter under Commissioner Grandmaster Danilo L. Cardinal and with the generous sponsorship of Hon. Bacolod City Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia successfully held the UDTA-Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia Arnis Cup 2009 last October 4, 2009, Sunday, at the Atrium area, Gaisano Bacolod Supermall, Araneta St., Brgy. Singcang, Bacolod City,

Guest of honor was Hon. Bacolod City Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia. Immediate past Arnis Philippines Bacolod/Negros Commissioner Atty. Col. Grandmaster Marcelo “Pope” C. Jalandoon, Ph.D., Founder/President of the Negros Occidental Baston Federation (NOBF), was also present to support the event.

Players from Bacolod, Bago, Dumarao, La Carlota, Roxas, and Sagay fought for different categories in the Anyo “Form (Tagalog)” and Labanan “Fighting (Tagalog)” divisions.

Overall champion was the Hon. Mayor Ramon D. Torres-sponsored Negros United Fighting Arts Academy (NUFAA) of Founder/Grandmaster Jose “Joe” B. Mancesa with a 33-4-4 medal tally. The Capiz Arnis Team under Grandmaster Carlito Ondillo was 2nd ploace with a 9-16-6 medal haul.

The Hon. Victor A. Tanco-sponsored Capiz Arnis Team was a composite of the Arnis Philippines-Capiz Chapter/Lightning Scientific Arnis International (LSAI) -Capiz Chapter (4-10-1), Capiz Arnis Federation (3-6-4), and LSAI-Dumarao Chapter (2-0-1).

3rd to 6th places were KaliSilat Arnis Association (KAA) of Grandmaster Danilo L. Cardinal (4-8-11), DHSBNHS-La Carlota Arnis Club of Mr. Angel Agracio (3-0-5), Golden Kamagong Arnis Kali Eskrima Association (GKAKEA)-Sagay Chapter under Grandmaster Gener Arnais (0-1-2), and Siete Pares Arnis Club of Founder Rener Decripito (0-1-1).
