160 Murcia Tanods Trained By: James U. Sy Jr.

160 of Barangay Public Safety Officers (BPSO) underwent the 2-day training "Professionalization of the Barangay Tanod sponsored by the Municipality of Murcia under Hon. Mayor Estaban “Sonny” Coscolluela and the department of interior and Local Government (DILG) on Oct 21-22 (1st batch) and 26-27, 2009 (2nd batch) in Murcia, Negros Occidental.

Dr. Raymund Antonio A. Maguad, PTRP, MD, Murcia Municipal Health Officer (MHO), and Lafayette “Laf” A. Diamante, RN, Public Health Nurse-Murcia, taught first aid and transfers, which are very important skills needed by brgy. tanods during rescue operations during fires and calamities. Dr. Maguad and Diamante are Chapter Heads in the Conceptual Martial Arts Society (CMAS), Inc.

Master Luciano “Nick” Montoya, 5th Degree Black Belt, Founder of the Murcia Martial Arts Center (MMAC), Arnis and arresting techniques to the brgy. tanods for the orderly and safe apprehension of violators of peace and order and suspected criminals.

Hon. SB Atty. Gerry Vera lectured on citizen arrest. Other topics covered include fire prevention discussed by the Bureau of Fire, intelligence by the Philippine national Police (PNP), and team building by the Local Government (DILG).

Officials present during the first day of the training were Hon. Mayor Estaban “Sonny” Coscolluela and his wife Mr. Judith Coscolluela, Hon. SB Atty. Gerry Vera, Hon. SB Gerry Roxas, and Hon. SB Rene Sanggoy.
