Smoke and fire were discovered by personnel at the men’s section at the north wing of Gaisano City Bacolod Supermall at around 9:00-9:15 AM last August 22, 2010 but was promptly placed under control.
An interview with Store Operations Manager Mr. Armando Lim revealed that some employees of Gaisano had been doing overtime when they discovered heavy smoke at a post module of their consignor, Cotton Club. The fire was stopped because Gaisano had sprinklers which released water. Mall guards were immediately put to action to control the fire.
Firetrucks from the Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade headed by Fire Chief Brynt Lao and the Bureau of Fire were fast to respond to the situation, arriving minutes later to the area. The responding firemen, however, did not get to use their water hoses since the fire was already halted. They instead helped out in the cleaning operation of the affected part of the department store.
Employees and shoppers were made to wait outside while remnant smoke was still being dissipated.
