The 2010 Referees & Judges 5-day Accreditation Seminar will be held by Arnis Philippines, Inc. on August 23-27, 2010 at its Head Office, No. 36-11th St. (near St. Luke’s Church), New Manila, Quezon City.
The training is part of a series of seminars held by Arnis Philippines, Inc. under the leadership of its President, Raymund S. Velayo, to equip and certify officials in the proper and safe conduct of Sport Arnis tournaments. Last May 19-20, 2010, the Seminar for Updating and Standardization of Revised International Rules for Sport Arnis was also conducted by Arnis Philippines (ArPi), Inc. in Quezon City.
Grandmaster Danilo “Danny” L. Cardinal, Bacolod/Negros Occidental Commissioner of Arnis Philippines, was among those who attended the May seminar. Since his return in Bacolod, GM Cardinal has already conducted two echo seminars last July 3-4, 2010 in Bago City and August 7-8 in Bacolod City as well as one officiating review on July 18, 2010 in Bago City.
Republic Act No. 9850 “An Act declaring Arnis as the National Martial Art and Sport of the Philippines” was officially signed into law by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo last on December 11, 2009. Said law makes Arnis as a requirement for the Physical Education (PE) course of the Department of Education, Culture, and Sports (DECS). The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is the lead agency tasked to implement RA 9850.
Meanwhile, Arnis Philippines is the sole government recognized National Sport Association (NSA) for Arnis in the Philippines. Arnis Philippines rules had been adopted by the DepEd. Because of this new development, there is a need for more qualified Judges and referees. The purpose of sportive Arnis is to build confidence in the students as competition is a quasi-real test of the skills they learn during training. The responsibility of the coaches and the tournament officials is to ensure the safety of the players while they engage in competition.
