Riverside College Formally Opens Entrepreneurship Month by: James U. Sy Jr.

The Entrepreneurship Month Celebration was formally opened by Riverside College, Inc. through its Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), Mrs. Elsa C. Streegan, and hosted by the College of Entrepreneurship under Department Chair Leonor A. de la Cruz, with the theme “Gearing up to meet the challenges of the future with confidence, integrity and faith in God” on July 3, 2017 at the Roof Deck, Riverside College Inc., Dr. Pablo O. Torre St., Bacolod City.
The program was well attended by about 300 students of BS Entrepreneurship under Department Chair Leonor A. de la Cruz, Interdisciplinary Studies Department under Dr, Nenelyn de la Fuente, and Senior High School under Principal Livia Barriesses of Riverside College and the students of BS Accounting Technology under Chairpersons Prof. Joena Balladares of BSE and Prof. Lucia Tumulak of BSACT and BS Office Administration under Chairperson Kenrose Laguyo of Carlos Hilado Memorial State College-Fortune Towne Campus (CHMSC-FT) led by Jonah J. Perulino, MBA, BSOA Adviser.
VPAA Elsa C. Streegan stressed the need for up and coming entrepreneurs to have the necessary knowledge and skills and the guts to to take risks, calculated and moderate risks that is, in starting up new ventures.
Entrepreneur Norberto De Ocampo, COO of St. Rafael Development Corporation (SRDC), was guest of honor and guest speaker. His message to the attendees was for them to fully prepare and equip themselves for the globalized challenges of business in the 21st Century and ultimately become good and more so, better entrepreneurs who will elevate Filipino products to international prominence and energize the Philippine economy.
De Ocampo summarized best his point when he quoted an ancient Chinese proverb which said, “When the wind of change blows, some people build walls, others build windmills,” in reference to the entrepreneur’s ability to adapt to change and find an opportunity in every adversity.
Over All Program Coordinator was BS Entrepreneurship Full Time Instructor Jenette Lopez. Gil Alfredo B. Severino, MA, of the College of Arts and Sciences gave the reflection. Praise and worship was conducted by Ikthus Magnification. Master of Ceremonies were Elen Mongcal and Jasmine Arricivita. Conducting a seminar in the afternoon was Jennifer S. Sanchez, Branch Manager, SRDC, with the assistance of her staff Jade Linco. Sponsors were St. Rafael Development Corporation (SRDC) for the snacks and CMYK of Mar Cuello through staff Jhoanne Yema for the trophies for the winners.
