Arnis for Women’s Self Defense Seminar Held @ PAGCOR

Sy Jr./CMAS photo). The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), Casino Filipino Bacolod under Branch Manager Arthur O. Malatag organized the “Women’s Self Defense Seminar” for 15 of its employees on March 7-8, 2016, 2:00-4:00 PM, at the Kahirup Entertainment Center, Casino Filipino, Bacolod City in celebration of Women’s Month 2016. Featured instructors for the seminar were Master Maxwell J. Maun of the Herada Pigada Arnis, an employee of Casino Filipino Bacolod, and Master James U. Sy Jr., Founder of the Conceptual Arnis System and Full Time Instructor at Bacolod City College (BCC), with the assistance of BCC BSIT senior Kriska Joy Therese P. Jacinto. The seminar, which included both theory and hands on applications, introduced participants to the basic principles of self defense, awareness and avoidance, protective maneuvers against various forms of attacks on the streets such as grabs, hugs, knives, and guns, and the basic strikes, blocks, and grabs of Arnis. Officers of Casino Filipino Bacolod were in full support of the activity: Branch Manager Arthur O. Malatag, Assistant BM Raymund Aranda, Branch Legal Officer Atty. Lenon Corgos, Branch Senior Casino Relations Officer Daisy De La Rama, MWR Chairman Randy O. Chua, IT Supervisor Malou Lapore Francisco. It was the third Arnis seminar held by Casino Filipino Bacolod for its employees since 2011. The first workshop was a 30-session course for the employees’ health and wellness program which ran from August to October 2011, also conducted by Maun and Sy with Brian Baylon Sensie. The second workshop was the “Women’s Self Defense Seminar,” also held in celebration of Women’s Month, on March 12, 2013, was conducted by Sy with the assistance of his student Kimberly Longno.
