Globe, Astro Conduct “TM Football Para sa Bayan” in Neg. Occ. for Camps in Malaysia, Europe by: James U. Sy Jr.

Maria Football Field in Talisay City (PRworks Visayas-Mindanao photo). 144 children, aged 10-12, from Negros Occidental registered for the “TM Football Para sa Bayan” clinic last July 24, 2016 at the Sta. Maria Football Field in Talisay City and vied for the chance to be among the lucky dozen Filipino kids who will join world class football camps in Malaysia and possibly, Europe this year all-expense paid as part of the tie up between Astro Malaysia and Globe Telecom. The lucky dozen will attend the Astro Kem Bola Advanced Training Programme in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in September 2016, opposite their counterparts from Singapore and Malaysia. The lucky dozen will be narrowed down further to six children who will be attending a football camp in West Ham United Football Club (UK) or FC BARCELONA (Spain) in December, 2016. The Astro Kem Bola Programme aims to provide a comprehensive training and development experience for its participants, according to Datuk David Michael yap, Vice President of Community Affairs. “TM Football Para sa Bayan” has been started by Globe to use the power of sports to instill in the youth the importance of possessing the right attitude, good values, and a good education, Ray Guinoo, TM Portfolio and Brand Head, pointed out. Selections were also conducted for Iloilo (July 23), Davao (August 13), and Manila (August 20). Tiffany Trinidad of the Estafania FC was the only female entrant for the Negros Occidental selection, which was participated in by aspiring footballers from Sum-ag Elementary School, Medel Elementary School, Trinity Christian School, and St. John’s Institute among others. “TM Football Para sa Bayan” is facilitated by the Green archers United (GAU) of De La Salle University (DLSU), the professional football league that is Globe Telecom’s implementing partner of said program. The Negros selection was started as Fernando Esguerra, Globe Director for Citizenship, and Coach Hans Peter Smith, GAU Technical Director, answered querries for the concurrently held press conference for both local and other regional media people.
