Six Entrepreneurship 2B students of the Business Education Dept. (BSBE), Bacolod City College (BCC)-Sum-ag Ext. requested for and received instructions in Conceptual Arnis for their advertising quad media presentation for the subject Principles of Marketing (PriMark) under Mr. Carolino A. Gamlanga, Insturctor I.
The workshop, dubbed as “Conceptual Arnis Seminar for Marketing Quad Media Presentation, was conducted by James U. Sy Jr., Founder/Master of Conceptual Martial Arts Society (CMAS), Inc., on March 3, 2016 at the Capitol Lagoon, Bacolod City.
The BCCians were taught basic warming up exercises with the baston and the majority of the training focused on sinawali, the Arnis method of using double sticks. A total of 7 patterns were taken up including 2 and 4 counts, alternate and successive high and low strikes. To round up the training, otso-otso was taught for solo baston, the hand blade for knife defense, and the 1-count gun disarm.
The group’s proposed business was Tumandok Self Defense Center, which will teach professionally among others Arnis as self defense. The students had to prepare ad copies for calling cards, flyers, posters and tarps, radio and video ads, and social media accounts. The seminar was to give them a basic understanding of the dynamics of the art to better articulate it in the ads.
The training group, which was the first presentor for their class, was composed of Paula Grace Porras, Kim Solinap, Leonilyn Villafuerte, Jhoe Ann Sumadia, Rodelyn Sumogat, and Jheza B. Evangelista.
The quad media presentation served as the subject’s final examination for the students and was an innovative way for students to have a hands-on application of what they have learned in theory, in consonance with the college’s mission of producing globally competitive graduates. The BSBE Dept. is headed by Mr. Felipe R. Chin Jr., CPA, MBA, and the Bacolod City College (BCC) is under the chairmanship of Hon. Bacolod City Mayor Monico O. Puentevella.
